Barry Bonds has an estimated net worth of $80 million

Barry Bonds is a former American professional baseball player with an estimated net worth of $80 million. Bonds played the majority of his professional career as a left fielder with the San Francisco Giants (15 years) and is the all-time home run leader and single-season home run leader.  He is 6’2″ and weighs 228 pounds. Barry Lamar Bonds was born on July 24, 1964 in Riverside, California. The son of baseball All-Star player Bobby Bonds and Patricia Howard, Bonds was a natural athlete, excelling in baseball, football and basketball in his youth. With his baseball pedigree and the fact that he was named a high-school All-American in 1982, the San Francisco Giants selected Bonds in the 1982 MLB Draft, but he chose to attend at Arizona State University because the two couldn’t agree to terms. At ASU, Bonds has a storied college career and graduated with a degree in Criminology in 1985.

Bonds was selected in the first round of the 1985 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates and after a short stint in the minor leagues he debuted in the major leagues in 1986. He was an instant star, leading rookie in home runs. The next year he would hit 25 home runs and revitalized a team that had been in the doldrums. He would continue to improve every year until he won his first MVP Award in 1990, smashing 33 home runs and 114 RBIs. In 1992 he would win his second MVP award, with 34 home runs and 103 RBIs. In 1993, Bonds left the Pirates and signed a 6-year, $43 million contract with the Giants. At the time it was the biggest ever contract in MLB history. His stats would increase dramatically with the Giants as he belted out 46 home runs and 123 RBIs in his first year to win his third MVP Award and his second consecutive award. His statistics, especially his power numbers, would continue to improve as Bonds got older.

In 2001, Bonds would have one of the greatest seasons in MLB history, hitting a record 73 home runs and a slugging percentage of .863. The next year, 2002, Bonds would sign a 5-year, $90 million contract and followed it up with 46 home runs. He would continue to put up incredible numbers, including in 2004 when he won the batting title, broke the walk record had a slugging percentage of .812, en route to his fourth consecutive MVP Award and seventh overall, the most in history. In 2007, Bonds would break Hank Aaron’s all-time home run record.  Despite his amazing career, several negatives are associated with Bonds’ legacy. He is a central figure in the so-called “steroid era” having long been suspected of taking performance-enhancing drugs and admitting to using some substances. He was convicted of perjury in the BALCO trial but not sentenced to any prison time and his physical appearance changed dramatically over his career, adding to the public’s mistrust of Bonds. He has been married twice and has three children.
