Chris Andersen has an estimated net worth of $10 million
Chris “Birdman” Andersen is a professional American basketball player with an estimated net worth of $10 million. Andersen is currently a forward-center for the Miami Heat. He is 6’10″ and weighs 227 pounds. Christopher Claus “Birdman” Andersen was born on July 7, 1978 in Long Beach, California. At the age of four, Andersen’s family – which includes two siblings – moved to Texas where his father planned to build a home on a 10-acre lot of land about 100 miles north of Houston. His father left the family before the house was built forcing his mother to take care of the family on her own. It was rough childhood and Andersen didn’t take up basketball until high school when the varsity coach suggested it could lead to a scholarship. He showed plenty of natural ability and though he didn’t have the grades to attend the University of Houston, he did attend Blinn College, where he would lead all junior college players in blocks in his one and only season.
Andersen decided to jump straight into professional basketball but failed to apply for the NBA Draft in 1999. He ended up playing professionally in the Chinese Basketball Association for a season and then bouncing around semi-pro leagues back in the United States. After showing promise in the minor leagues, Andersen became the first ever D-League player to be called up by an NBA team, when he signed with the Denver Nuggets in 2001. Andersen quickly proved his worth as he became a aggressive shot-blocker and rebounder in limited minutes off the bench. He got the nickname “Birdman” for his wing-span and jumping acrobatics. After three successful seasons with the Nuggets, Andersen signed with the New Orleans Hornets where he was given a 4-year, $14 million contract. After three years, however, he returned to the Nuggets.
A colorful character with a multitude of tattoos and a penchant for exciting the crowd, Andersen was a crowd-favorite for every team he played. Unfortunately, his career has been marred by some drug issues and other off-the-court problems. Even so, when he became a free agent in 2013, he was snatched up by the World Champion Miami Heat and became an instant hit with the already star-studded team. Andersen would quickly become an integral part of the team’s bench and had numerous standout performances in the Heat’s second championship run in 2013, including shooting 15 for 15 at one point against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
